Active for Health

The Council’s Active for Health Project will develop and strengthen partnerships to improve the access and quality of services in leisure facilities in North Northamptonshire. Working with delivery partners NN Leisure, Places Leisure and Freedom Leisure to improve activity services and programmes across North Northamptonshire and ensure resources are in place to meet the needs of the community.

 

North Northamptonshire Leisure Services and Public Health are committed to tackling health inequalities and improving outcomes for our community, this two year project will support increased training for leisure teams within facilities and introduce new programmes and develop and improve interventions such as Activity on Referral (AOR), rehabilitation programmes and falls prevention.

 

The project will see the introduction of  programmes such as Good Boost offering personal aquatic activity programmes within North Northamptonshire Council Leisure Facilities as well as supporting a “Refer All” system where possible with local health partners working closely with Leisure facilities to have a seamless referral process from health professionals to local leisure facilities where qualified staff will be able to support individuals to increase activity levels to improve their overall health and wellbeing.

'Activity on Referral' is a county wide scheme whereby GP's and Health Professionals can refer physically inactive people with certain medical conditions such as hypertension, depression or osteoarthritis to name a few, onto a tailor-made exercise programme to assist and support them to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Often referred to as the maintenance phase, our Phase IV Cardiac Rehab programme is designed to enable patients to regain full physical, psychological and social status following a cardiac event or surgery.

Good Boost technology offers personalised therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation in water in a fun and social environment.  It is aimed to be accessible and adaptable for people living with joint conditions and wider long term health conditions, to provide an effective opportunity for supported self-management and wellbeing.

Swimming is one of the safest ways to exercise during pregnancy as the water supports your joints whilst providing resistance work for the muscles. We CAN-Move is an exercise referral programme designed specifically for adults (16 years+) who have been affected by cancer. The programme provides cancer patients with opportunities to be active including access to personalised exercise programmes delivered by experts in exercise and wellbeing.

Get Up & Go balance exercise classes are for those at risk of falls, and those that want to improve mobility and confidence. The sessions consist of a minimum of a 24 weeks programming and exercise prescription, delivered by OTAGO qualified exercise professionals.

Stay on top of your health with a FREE NHS Health Checks. These checks are available for individuals aged 40 to 74 who do not have pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or other specified conditions (eligibility criteria apply).

Individuals looking to gain insights into their overall health and fitness levels. Suitable for anyone interested in tracking their body composition to support fitness, weight loss or health improvements plans.
