Corby's Friends Of Group's

“Making a Difference to our Local Parks, Woodlands and Green Spaces”

Being part of any of our Corby Friends of Groups means you will be involved with work on the woodlands, including coppicing, planting, litter picking, helping with events and more.

Corby has Friends of Groups for: Thoroughsale and Hazel Wood/ Coronation Park/ East Carlton Countryside Park / King's Wood Local Nature Reserve/ West Glebe Park/ Weldon Woodland Park.

North Northamptonshire Council's Shadow member for Adults Health and Wellbeing, Councillor John McGhee, said:

"Corby's Friends of Groups are a real asset to Corby for all of the work the dedicated volunteers put in to make sure our green spaces are maintained. Being a member of any of our groups is a great way to spend time outdoors, meet new people, keep active and make sure residents are always in a safe and friendly environment when walking through the woodlands and parks so please don't hesitate to pick up a leaflet and get in touch with some of our volunteers."

These groups are currently engaged in clearing the accumulated litter and fly tipping from their respected sites, meeting regularly, to improve their general appearance and reduce negative perceptions.

The Friends of Thoroughsale and Hazelwood are committed to ensuring the woodland is a safe, welcoming and attractive site and have been involved in the Thoroughsale and Hazelwood Management Plan process since the beginning. In turn the Woodland Management Plan seeks to provide full support to the Friends of Group, ensuring that there are no barriers to new people joining this group.

other Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering is an extremely rewarding experience with many social benefits and for dedicated volunteers we are able to provide free training opportunities through the Corby Woodland Project.

We are also seeking volunteers to help run Foxy's Woodland Shop in East Carlton Countryside Park where you can gain retail experience in a beautiful setting.  If you would like to discuss any of our volunteering opportunities further, please email gary.chisholm@northnorthants.gov.uk and one of our team will be in touch to discuss further.  We only ask for as much time as you are able to give.

Corby Heritage Centre needs volunteers - Come along and become part of our team of volunteers.  Our current volunteers are from all walks of life and bring many varied skills to the centre. You don't need to be a qualified Historian, an enthusiasm for local heritage is more important. For more information, please contact Billy Dalziel (Heritage Development Worker) 01536 464284 or email billy.dalziel@northnorthants.gov.uk
