💙 Let’s Talk Water Safety: Drowning Prevention Week 2025

As summer approaches, many of us are looking forward to days at the pool, trips to the beach, or peaceful walks by the river. But before we dive in, let’s take a moment to talk about something that could save a life, water safety.

From 14–21 June 2025, we’re proud to support the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Drowning Prevention Week. This national campaign is all about making sure that everyone no matter their age or background has the chance to enjoy water safely.

🌊 Why It Matters to All of Us

Drowning doesn’t just happen in deep water or during extreme sports. It can happen quickly, quietly, and in places we least expect; a riverbank, a lake, the sea, or even a paddling pool. That’s why it’s so important to talk to our families about the Water Safety Code and make sure our children have the skills they need to stay safe.

Stop & Think - Stay Together - Call 999 - Float

We want every child to grow up with a positive relationship with water—to splash, swim, and play with confidence. And that starts with education, awareness, and access to lessons.

🌅 It’s Not Just About Pools

Water safety matters everywhere—at the beach, by the river, near lakes and reservoirs. Here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:

  • At the beach: Swim between the red and yellow flags and always listen to lifeguards.

  • By rivers and lakes: Don’t jump into unknown water, and watch out for strong currents and hidden hazards.

  • In open water: Wear a lifejacket when boating or paddleboarding, and never swim alone.

  • "Stop and Think, Stay Together, Float, Call 999" These simple steps can make all the difference in an emergency.

🗣️ Let’s Start the Conversation

This week, take a moment to talk to your family about water safety. Share what you’ve learned. Ask questions. And most importantly, make a plan to stay safe while still having fun.

Use the hashtags #EnjoyWaterSafely #DrowningPreventionWeek #RLSSUK #FamilyFun to spread the word and help others do the same.

Together, we can make sure that every splash, every swim, and every summer memory is a safe one.
